What is One Transit?

One Transit is a transit network design that operates high-frequency (i.e., every 15 minutes) intermodal accessible transit through technology. It integrates all transit modes – paratransit, microtransit, and fixed routes – designed to operate in sync, with seamless connectivity powered by advanced tools and strategies.

When was One Transit launched?

One Transit was developed throughout 2024 by The Routing Company, further advanced through industry conversations and peer reviews, and officially launched in September 2024 (learn more about the launch).

What are the benefits of One Transit?

One Transit delivers multiple benefits to agencies, operators, and riders:

Cost-Effectiveness: Helps agencies deliver equitable transit accessibility efficiently, reducing operational costs.

Accessibility: Ensures seamless integration of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit services with other transit modes.

Equity: Promotes transit equity by unifying all transit modes into a single, accessible system.

Operational Efficiency: Optimizes resource utilization and reduces wait times by integrating transit modes.

Flexibility: Enables real-time adjustments to meet demand and ensure reliability.

Improved Rider Experience: Provides seamless connectivity, reducing travel time and increasing convenience for riders.

Why does One Transit matter?

The idea behind One Transit is to cost-effectively achieve and maintain equity in transit accessibility and rider experience.

It ensures that any rider can get a trip within 15 minutes by being directed to the most effective mode, addressing disparities in transit access that impact life opportunities.

How does One Transit work in the real world?

One Transit works with various technologies, including our Pingo™ platform, which enables seamless integration of transit modes and efficient on-demand management.

As a non-proprietary model, One Transit can be implemented using other tools to suit each agency’s needs. Its flexibility allows adaptation to diverse environments, meeting the unique demands of riders.

Where is One Transit operating today?

One Transit is already transforming transit systems in the following regions:

FAST (Fairfield, CA): The public transit system in Fairfield provides fixed route, on-demand, and commingled paratransit service, using the One Transit model to maintain a 99% on-time performance rate and a 4.8/5 rider rating while reducing wait times to just five minutes (learn more in our FAST case study).

Kitsap Transit (Bremerton, WA): Kitsap Transit (KT) uses the One Transit model to streamline operations and improve accessibility, offering high-quality service across commingled modes (learn more in our KT case study).
