September 30, 2024 – Anaheim, California, USA: The Routing Company (TRC), a global leader in on-demand vehicle routing and public transit management, today officially launched its highly anticipated One Transit model during a special event at the American Public Transportation Association (“APTA”) TRANSform Conference.
One Transit is a groundbreaking industry solution that redefines accessibility by offering real-time, same-day, intermodal transit integration for paratransit, microtransit, and fixed-route services.
The announcement was made onsite at the APTA conference and trade show in Anaheim, California, with TRC executives and partners (customers) including Diane Feinstein, Transportation Manager with FAST in Fairfield, California, together officially launching One Transit and sharing remarks about its effectiveness as the new path to transit accessibility.
Unveiling One Transit – A New Era for Public Transit
Following a series of insightful webinars and white papers over the summer, the One Transit model is now fully launched, marking a critical step toward creating truly equitable and cost-effective transit networks. Attendees at the APTA conference witnessed the official launch of this innovative platform at TRC’s booth, led by Chief Executive Officer James Cox, alongside industry executives, transit agency partners, and APTA representatives.
“One Transit isn't just a vision – it’s a proven solution for cities looking to enhance the rider experience, optimize transit operations, and scale their systems efficiently,” said Cox.
“The interest we’ve seen from cities worldwide shows that this model not only addresses today’s transit challenges, but also scales effectively to meet future demands. Our unparalleled product innovation and customer support continue to make TRC the top choice for transit operators, investors, and partners alike."
How One Transit Works
One Transit is a network design that operates high-frequency (i.e. every 15 minutes) intermodal accessible transit, where all transit modes – paratransit, microtransit and fixed routes – are designed to operate in-sync, with seamless connectivity powered by technology.
That way, agencies can cost-effectively achieve and maintain equity in transit accessibility and rider experience, so that any rider can get a trip within 15 minutes by being directed to the most effective mode.
TRC enables One Transit through its industry-leading Pingo™ platform and by leveraging Pingo Access™ – a feature within the Pingo™ platform that seamlessly delivers Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) paratransit services in multiple modes.
Transforming Transit Operations and Rider Experience
Stephen Kuban, TRC’s Head of Partner Growth, and the visionary and lead developer of One Transit model, explained it as a comprehensive integrated transit system allowing agencies to streamline operations while delivering seamless, accessible, and equitable real-time transit service for riders. One Transit enables commingling of paratransit, microtransit, and fixed routes into a cohesive network powered by TRC’s award-winning Pingo™ technology.
“Our goal with One Transit is to build a unified, accessible transit network that works for everyone – especially those who depend on paratransit,” said Stephen Kuban. “By integrating transit modes, including commingling paratransit, and leveraging real-time routing and vehicle tracking, we’re making transit systems far more efficient, reducing wait times and operational costs while increasing flexibility, accessibility, and equity for riders.”
Momentum Behind One Transit
Since its introduction in June 2024, One Transit has gained significant traction in the industry, supported by a series of TRC-hosted webinars featuring industry leaders, paratransit experts, and TRC partners such as:
- Christian Kent, Principal, CTK Transit Management Consulting
- Marie Gress, Executive Director, WAVE (Dexter, MI)
- Terrence Strong, General Manager, MV Transportation (Fairfield, CA)
- Karl Farnsworth, Access Service Coordinator, Kitsap Transit (Bremerton, WA)
- Diane Feinstein, Transportation Manager, FAST (Fairfield, CA)
These sessions explored the critical role of user experience, product design, and strategic migration planning in transforming transit networks.
A New Path for Transit Equity
One Transit provides a solution for cities to achieve equitable transit access through real-time, integrated operations. By bringing multiple transit modes into a single platform, TRC empowers transit agencies to reduce operational complexity, enhance rider experiences, and maximize asset utilization.
The launch of One Transit builds on TRC’s foundation of paratransit product innovation, service design leadership, and experience with integrated transit deployments, including commingled paratransit networks.
TRC first unveiled its Pingo Access paratransit product mid-2023, and continued investing in the development of new and better features to most recently announce a series of nine additional upgrades. All features were developed in direct response to and collaboration with TRC’s partners (customers), a process involving intensive market research, market listening, industry dialogue, and analysis with key stakeholders.
Through its continuous improvement of the Pingo Access paratransit product, TRC is directly improving the experience for people who use paratransit every day: dispatchers, operators, reservationists, and riders.
TRC strives to deliver the industry’s best customer experience, and remains unmatched in customer satisfaction. Following a recent partner survey, TRC announced it earned a record customer satisfaction score with an NPS of 92, continuing to illustrate TRC’s ability to delight partners and deliver on white glove service expectations.
TRC’s award-winning Pingo platform includes the Drive Pingo™ and Ride Pingo™ apps and the Pingo Dashboard™ operations management tool, which together provide on-demand, paratransit, fixed, shuttle, and flexible transit that enhances ridership of existing transit networks.
