Northfield Lines launches on-demand shuttle service for campuses

A new partnership between Northfield Lines and The Routing Company is bringing on-demand shuttle services to Minnesota college campuses in Northfield and Dundas, aiming to improve mobility for students and staff at St. Olaf College and Carleton College.

The service, launched in April, uses TRC’s Pingo platform, a global vehicle routing and management system that provides scalable, tech-enabled transit solutions. The platform allows riders to request rides in real-time through the Ride Pingo app, while the Drive Pingo app and Pingo Dashboard support efficient dispatch and fleet management.

Initially focused on serving essential trips such as medical appointments, pharmacy visits and local volunteering opportunities, the service is expected to expand to corporate campuses and other institutions in the region.

“Northfield Lines has been providing transport services across Minnesota for over 30 years, and they’ve always kept customer service at the center of everything they do,” said Dami Adebayo, TRC’s director of partnerships. “That makes them an ideal partner for TRC, and we’re excited to work together to digitalize and augment the campus shuttles they provide.”

The service draws on TRC’s Pingo Campus product, already used at institutions like Virginia Commonwealth University, where it provides up to 80,000 rides a month. The product is designed to meet the specific needs of university and corporate environments, offering flexible, cost-effective alternatives to traditional shuttle systems.

“Our partnership with TRC supports our goal to provide efficient and reliable transportation for students and corporate partners,” said Mary O’Neil, vice president of sales and operations at Northfield Lines. “We look forward to offering a service that meets the unique needs of our community while maintaining operational excellence.”

Founded by researchers from MIT and veterans of the rideshare industry, TRC has supported over two million trips worldwide through its proprietary artificial intelligence platform. The company operates internationally with hubs in eight countries.
