Flexibus celebrates 10,000 passenger milestone

Since its May 2023 launch, the operation, supported by WeMove and The Routing Company, has carried over 10,000 passengers

East Sussex demand-responsive transport (DRT) service Flexibus, operated by WeMove, has reached the milestone of serving 10,000 passengers within less than a year since its launch in May 2023, using a fleet of 15 vehicles, including 10 which operate fully on demand, and five additional semi-flexible services.

Councillor Claire Dowling, East Sussex County Council’s lead member for transport and environment, said: “We’re delighted to have welcomed the 10,000th passenger on our Flexibus service. The Flexibus services have proved to be extremely popular since launching in May last year, giving residents who previously had little or no access to public transport a flexible, on demand bus service that gives them access to a range of services and the wider public transport network, or simply enables them to travel to their nearest shopping centre. As well as making it easier for residents to use public transport, Flexibus gives a welcome boost to the county’s economy, and I look forward to seeing the service continue to thrive.”

Since its launch, WeMove says Flexibus has quickly become a vital component of the region’s transportation network, offering a flexible and on-demand solution for residents in areas where traditional fixed routes fell short. The service is accessible through The Routing Company’s Ride Pingo app or via a telephone booking service provided by WeMove’s UK support centre.

“Reaching the 10,000 passenger milestone is a testament to the success and demand for the Flexibus model. The positive response from the community has been overwhelming, with passenger numbers steadily increasing since the service’s inception,” says WeMove. “We are thrilled to see Flexibus making a significant impact in East Sussex. This is a clear indication that the community values the flexibility and accessibility that our service provides. We remain committed to enhancing transportation options and fostering sustainable travel solutions across the region.”
