TRC Launches New Services in Glenfarg, Scotland to Transform Rural Mobility with Pingo Flex 2.0

October 3, 2025 – London, United Kingdom: The Routing Company (“TRC”), a global on-demand vehicle routing and management platform, has launched an innovative rural transit partnership in Perthshire, Scotland, in collaboration with Glenfarg Community Transport Group (GCTG) and Community Transport Glasgow (CTG). Both a fully flexible digital demand responsive transport (DDRT) pilot and semi-fixed services began operating earlier this summer.

This project marks a new UK deployment of TRC’s latest Pingo Flex 2.0 technology, which uniquely enables real-time shuttle tracking of semi-fixed services for riders while also  allowing drivers to log “walk-on” or flagged-down passengers directly in-app - a major step forward from the fragmented systems used previously.

“Beyond a launch, this new partnership is a breakthrough for mobility in a rural area,” said Dami Adebayo, Director of Partnerships at TRC. “We’re combining smart technology with local community know-how to simplify operations for drivers, improve access for riders, and help rural transit thrive.”

A Community-Led Partnership with National Reach

GCTG, a volunteer-led transport group formed in 2022 after commercial services were cancelled, has quickly earned national attention for its innovative and award-winning approach to local transit. Supporting the rollout is Community Transport Glasgow (CTG) who will manage all call centre bookings through TRC’s dashboard, ensuring seamless access for less tech-savvy riders and maintaining high service quality.

The new setup replaces disjointed systems that required drivers to toggle between multiple platforms for tracking and booking management. The new service, from pre-booked deviations on routes 55 and 23 to the upcoming fully flexible 203-DDRT zone, is entirely powered by TRC’s single, streamlined platform.

Sustainable Funding and Long-Term Growth

The service is backed by a five-year contract and funded by the People and Places Community Fund, administered by TACTRAN, the regional transport partnership neighboring SEStran. The initiative not only supports Glenfarg and CTG’s ambitions for broader DRT coverage but also lays the groundwork for regional MaaS integration via TACTRAN’s Fuse journey planning platform.

“This is a major upgrade for our drivers and our passengers,” said Drew Smart, Chair of Glenfarg Community Transport Group. “With CTG and using TRC’s Pingo Flex solution, we’re future-proofing rural transport - and making it accessible, reliable, and community-driven.”

Service Details

Operating Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the service covers rural areas across Perthshire. The fleet includes wheelchair-accessible vehicles. Riders can book trips via the Pingo app or call CTG’s booking line. Some route stops remain scheduled, while others are served by pre-booking or flagged pickups, with all deviations tracked and managed in real-time.
