Bus operator brings on-demand transit to Keflavík airport

Bus4U is working with the Routing Company to provide on-demand transport around the Keflavík International Airport area, Iceland’s largest airport.

The Routing Company reckons more than 2,000 employees will benefit from the service operating around the airport.

The Icelandic national operator Bus4U is working with on-demand vehicle routing and management platform, the Routing Company (TRC) to provide on-demand transport around the Keflavík International Airport.

This marks the first time TRC’s Pingo app and platform will be available in Iceland, with the new service launching on 3 June.

On-demand home-to-work transportation

Keflavík International Airport is Iceland’s largest airport and is a major international transportation hub that is also a significant employer in the region.

The new service, operated by Bus4U, provides on-demand home-to-work transportation. More than 2,000 employees will benefit from the service – including employees of Iceland’s largest airline, Icelandair, and employees of Isavia, the company operating public airports and air navigation services in a vast area in the North-Eastern Atlantic.

“We are very excited to embark on our collaboration with TRC. We believe this will be a groundbreaking service for airport employees and it will open up other opportunities to provide on-demand transport services in Iceland,” said Sævar Baldursson, chief executive officer, Bus4U.

The new deployment will leverage TRC’s Ride Pingo mobile app and full suite of Pingo products to provide on-demand trips, with booking and dispatching completed by TRC’s Pingo Dashboard operations management tool.

It will also provide the service when fixed transport lines are not in operation. The service will also use TRC’s Pingo Journey and Pingo Venues features, the latter of which directs drivers and riders to convenient pickup and dropoff locations, and allows fleet managers to route all requests to specific points within the service area.

TRC’s Pingo platform includes the Drive Pingo and Ride Pingo apps and the Pingo Dashboard operations management tool, which together provide on-demand, paratransit, fixed, shuttle, and flexible transport that enhances ridership of existing transport networks.

“With a focus on extending existing transport networks and building greater flexibility into modal options, local employers and Bus4U have chosen to unleash the best of what our products can deliver,” said Dami Adebayo, director of partnerships, TRC. “Through our proven Pingo platform, we are providing a sustainable alternative to car use, and improving the daily commuting experience through flexible, responsive, and convenient shared buses.”
