Plumas Transit Systems launches on-demand evening shuttle service with TRC, offering a new transit option in rural California

Launch marks TRC’s sixth deployment in California

May 15, 2024 New York, New York, USA: The Routing Company (“TRC”), a global on-demand vehicle routing and management platform partnering with cities to power the future of public transit, today celebrated the successful launch of Plumas Transit System (“PTS”)’s on-demand transit evening service – powered by TRC’s Ride Pingo app – in Quincy, California. The service is operating under the name Quincy Evening.

Available to riders on weeknights, the new service provides a flexible transportation option during the evening, when fixed bus services are not available. The service notably improves accessibility to anchor institutions in the area like Plumas District Hospital, and accommodates varying evening class end times for Feather River College students. The Quincy Evening launch follows PTS’s announcement of an on-demand transit service with TRC in December 2023.

"We are excited to expand transit with PTS, and ultimately reach more of the community’s neighborhoods and citizens through on-demand evening transit,” said James Cox, Chief Executive Officer, TRC. “The aim is to enable greater flexibility for riders, reduced wait times, and access to more key areas in Plumas County – while keeping transportation affordable.”

PTS is supported by Plumas Rural Services, a Northeastern California community-based, non-profit organization providing services and opportunities to improve quality of life for local residents and families in Plumas County. PTS is part of the Plumas Rural Services team organization overseeing transit in the local area.

“Rural transit options can sometimes be challenging. We believe that The Routing Company’s on-demand system service will address many of these challenges and provide much needed flexibility for our transit users,” said Jim Graham, Executive Director, Plumas County Transportation Commission.

TRC is supporting PTS’ on-demand transit needs with its full suite of Pingo products – including the Pingo Journey™ and Pingo Analytics features.

First introduced in 2023, Pingo Analytics™ is TRC’s next generation customer transit analytics and reporting tool that offers best-in-class customer data access, with reports customizable to meet the U.S. Federal Transit Administration's (“FTA”) National Transit Database (or “NTD”) requirements.

TRC’s award-winning Pingo platform includes the Drive Pingo™ and Ride Pingo™ apps and the Pingo Dashboard™ operations management tool, which together provide on-demand, paratransit, fixed, shuttle, and flexible transit that enhances ridership of existing transit networks.

Pingo has moved over one million passengers to date. To learn more, visit theroutingcompany.com, or to request a demo email move@theroutingcompany.com.
