TRC secures one year on-demand transit contract with California’s Plumas Transit Systems to complement fixed-route service

New partnership marks TRC’s fifth on-demand transit deployment in California

December 19, 2023 New York, New York, USA: The Routing Company (“TRC”), a global on-demand vehicle routing and management platform partnering with cities to power the future of public transit, today announced it has received a one-year contract from Plumas County Transportation Commission (d/b/a Plumas Transit Systems or “PTS”) to provide on-demand transportation in Plumas County, California.

The new partnership marks TRC’s fifth deployment in California, following those with FAST Transit, Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit, Solano Transportation Authority, and Lassen Transit.

The contract will deploy in a collaborative nature, with TRC providing on-demand service to PTS, supported by Plumas Rural Services (“PRS”). The one-year pilot project intends to assess and explore opportunities for the ongoing expansion of on-demand transit services within the Quincy community, while supporting and complementing existing fixed-route service.

PTS is operated by PRS and provides public transportation services in Plumas County, California, through fixed route operation that is largely used by families and students. PTS operates three fixed routes, but with the deployment of on-demand transit, will serve the entire community. Following the one-year pilot project, PTS intends to explore the addition of Americans with Disabilities Act (or “ADA”) compliant commingled paratransit services as well.

"We are excited to expand transit with PTS, and ultimately reach more of the community’s neighborhoods and citizens with on-demand transit,” said James Cox, Chief Executive Officer, TRC. “The direct and immediate benefit to the people of Plumas County is reduced wait times, greater accessibility, and a better rider experience – all while keeping transportation affordable.”

PTS will use operational funds from the Federal Transit Administration’s Formula Grants For Rural Areas (5311 funds) to support the service.

The new on-demand deployment will leverage TRC’s full suite of Pingo products – including features such as Transit Connect™ and Pingo Journey™, as well as TRC’s Pingo Analytics™ next generation customer transit analytics and reporting tool.

Transit Connect™ guarantees connections for riders to fixed route networks using real-time data. The feature was developed by TRC as a solution to improve the rider experience and guarantee a connection to onward transit modes. Transit Connect™ will be used alongside Pingo Journey™ to connect riders to other transit services in the area.

Pingo Journey™ is a multimodal journey planning feature integrating TRC’s real-time routing technology with public transport infrastructure. Using Pingo Journey™, riders can book on-demand rides and plan their ongoing fixed-route journeys from the single Ride Pingo™ app.

TRC recently released new Pingo data that shows operators can regularly fill 18-person shuttles with on-demand service. TRC has proven it can deliver a higher utilization of vehicles compared to industry competitors, meaning more riders per vehicle per hour – in turn meaning maximized ride pooling to reduce single occupancy trips.

TRC’s award-winning Pingo platform includes the Drive Pingo™ and Ride Pingo™ apps and the Pingo Dashboard™ operations management tool, which together provide on-demand, paratransit, fixed, and flexible transit that enhances ridership of existing transit networks.

Pingo has moved over 750,000 passengers to date. To learn more, visit theroutingcompany.com. To connect with the TRC team, email move@theroutingcompany.com
