TRC celebrates launch of STA’s commingled on-demand and paratransit service, revitalizing rider accessibility in Solano County
Launch marks TRC’s second commingled paratransit service in California
April 19, 2024 – New York, New York, USA: The Routing Company (“TRC”), a global on-demand vehicle routing and management platform partnering with cities to power the future of public transit, today celebrated the Solano Transportation Authority’s (“STA”) successful launch of commingled on-demand transit and paratransit service – powered by TRC’s Ride Pingo app – in Suisun City, California. The service is operating under the name Suisun Microtransit.
Commingled service means vehicles are used for paratransit and on-demand transit (“ODT”) services at the same time. The Suisun City launch follows STA’s launch of commingled service in Rio Vista earlier this year, which was first shared by TRC in October during the announcement of its new five-year agreement with STA.
STA is the agency providing public transit to more than 10,000 community riders in Solano County, California, which is located between San Francisco and Sacramento. The agency is focused on improving quality of life through delivering transportation projects that provide mobility, travel safety, and economic vitality for all. STA also oversees on-demand mobility technologies to support ODT from Suisun City and the City of Rio Vista within Solano County.
“We are thrilled to support STA in its pursuit of connected, responsive, and scalable commingled transit where every rider is included,” said James Cox, Chief Executive Officer, TRC. “Launching commingled service, powered by Pingo, delivers on STA’s commitment to connect various microtransit services in the region. It also continues to prove commingling can be done efficiently, and that rider experience never has to be compromised.”
STA operates in the region next to FAST Transit in Fairfield, California, where TRC’s commingled service launched in 2023 using existing paratransit vehicles to replace unproductive fixed routes. As a result, ridership doubled, with over 60% of rides booked through the Ride Pingo™ app (versus call-ins), and more than 15,000 passengers moved.
“Suisun Microtransit offers our residents a flexible, reliable, and affordable transportation alternative to travel throughout Suisun City and various locations in Fairfield,” said Suisun City Mayor and STA Board Member Alma Hernandez. “The new app makes Suisun Microtransit even more convenient for riders and allows them to easily track the location of their ride.”
TRC is supporting STA’s on-demand transit needs with its full suite of Pingo products – including the Pingo Journey™ feature.
Launched in October 2022, Pingo Journey™ allows riders to hail on-demand transport rides and plan multimodal transport journeys all from the single Ride Pingo app. The feature makes Pingo the world’s only app offering on-demand transport and end-to-end journey planning in one place.
TRC’s award-winning Pingo platform includes the Drive Pingo™ and Ride Pingo™ apps and the Pingo Dashboard™ operations management tool, which together provide on-demand, paratransit, fixed, shuttle, and flexible transit that enhances ridership of existing transit networks.
Pingo has moved over one million passengers to date. To learn more, visit theroutingcompany.com, or to request a demo email move@theroutingcompany.com.
